  • Overview and Responsibilities

    To supervise and coordinate resources, activities and personnel associated with the Patient Access areas, including the Emergency Room Business Office, Central Scheduling, Pre-Admissions, Insurance Verification, Pre-Registration, Registration, Financial Counseling and/or vendors. Maintain the accuracy of scheduled procedures, securing reimbursement (including propensity to pay, insurance verification, medical necessity and authorization process), patient access procedures and processes, and the denials & appeals process. Serve as a liaison to ancillary departments and physician offices to ensure proper education and needs are met for maximum reimbursement. Assist in maintaining quality, training, and system enhancements within the department. Performs all other duties as assigned.


    Education: Associate's Degree Business Administration Required, or Associate's Degree in Related Field Required, or Completion of Experience in Lieu of Degree Required. Bachelor's Degree Business Administration Preferred, or Bachelor's Degree in Related Field Preferred. *** Experience: 3 years Healthcare/Medical-Business Operations Required. 7 years Healthcare/Medical - Business Operations Preferred. *** License/Certification/Registries (valid for the State of MS): Healthcare Financial Management Association Certification (HFMA) Preferred. National Association of Healthcare Access Management Certification (NAHAM) Certification Preferred. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Preferred. *** Skills: Type 35 wpm. Operate CRT/PC, calculator, copier, telephone, fax machine and scanner. Must possess basic telephone skills, keyboard proficiency, strong interpersonal/public relations skills, and have a working knowledge of medical terminology and Microsoft applications. Proficient in data entry. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively and cordially interact with staff, patients, medical staff, families, and visitors. Must also possess time management, analytical and negotiation skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred. Proficiency in Epic Prferred. Knowledge of revenue cycle a plus.
