  • Overview and Responsibilities

    Assists the surgical team during operation/procedure by arranging, inventorying and maintaining sterile set up for operation, and passes items as needed. Assists in the preparation of the surgical suite, moving patients, and in cleaning. Provides aid in exposure, homeostasis, and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out safe operation with optimal results for the patient.


    • Assists in performance of procedures for the surgical patient in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures.
    • Scrubs on all common and uncommon procedures including those on complex patients.
    • Implements aseptic technique by creating and maintaining a sterile field.
    • Monitors and assists in controlling the surgical environment identified by patient needs.
    • Safely and adequately provide and utilize equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
    • Assists in managing specimen collection, handling, and disposition according to hospital policy & procedure.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.





    DescriptionMinimum RequiredPreferred / Desired
      2 years of experience preferred.
     Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficiency. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties. 
    Special Skills  
     Must have one of the following certifications: Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA, formerly CFA) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) from the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants or Surgical Assistant-Certified (SA-C) from the ABSA, American Board of Surgical Assistants .
